" A Keystone Greyhound's Tail "

From Track to Forever Home

ARRIVING IN STYLE

This is how "AMF Slurpy" was transported to
Baltimore from Florida, arriving on May 15, 2004.
There is a hauler attached to the back of this truck
which originally contained 28 greyhounds,
but since this was their last stop,
there were 18 remaining.
"Slurpy" was one of those eighteen.

SO LONG

"Slurpy" says goodbye to her home on wheels for the last 18 hours.  She seems to be looking toward a bright future in a new forever home.

ARRIVAL BATHING

"Slurpy" is very patient while being bathed.  She arrived in beautiful condition, but bathing is a good idea after being in the same spot for hours.  Arrival bathing is done to make sure the new greyhound is flea- and tick-free, and is a good time to look the dog over physically.  No fleas, no ticks, clean ears and groomed nails.

She was not quite sure she liked this idea though !

SENT OFF WITH KISSES

"Oooohh..she smells so good!" Auntie Dianne gives "Slurpy" after-bath kisses to send her to the foster parents' home.

Before Keystone places a greyhound, he/she spends a bit of time with foster parents who teach the "new kid" the ropes of living in a home situation.  The foster family will pick her up today.

Looks like she is getting very used to this treatment !

THE FOSTER FAMILY

"Slurpy" with her foster family, the Harders, of Lebanon.

Keystone's foster families are a vital part of the new life of a retired racer.  Every foster family knows the intricacies of teaching a track dog things to take to his/her forever home, like how to go up and down steps, staying off furniture, recognizing when a door is open or closed, proper potty habits, and general house manners.

AHH...MY FOREVER FAMILY

After her time in foster care, "Slurpy" is loving being in her very own forever family and home.

"Slurpy's" forever mom and dad are Kristen Borgersen and Geoff Ottens.
